Mouseling Theatre Company is an Oxford-based pop-up company of fabulously talented amateur actors who have banded together to perform the quirkiest new family musical in decades, Marmaduke!
The back-story
When her kids were younger, author Carol Peaker entertained them with bedtime-stories about a mad inventor mouse called Marmaduke, whose every invention went spectacularly wrong. A whole cast of characters evolved: a strict Mayor and her miserable son Milton, Noah’s wacky friends, and Noah’s arch-enemy Gillian Yuck. Eventually, the stories turned into a novel and finally a comedy.
A year ago, Carol sent the play to musical composer Alex Thomas. She was delighted and amazed when he jumped enthusiastically aboard the project, creating eight new silly songs, and offering his services as Musical Director.
When Carol’s good friend, professional comic actor and director Simon Hutchens then agreed to Co-direct the play with her, she knew she was onto a winner.
For months, a team of twelve actors have rehearsed with humour and dedication in church halls, studios, community centres, and even kitchens, helping to tweak and develop Marmaduke! into the wonderful romp it is today.
